The DSSA National Sale held Thursday 31st August – Friday 1st September, sponsored by BreedELITE, was a highly anticipated event on the society’s calendar. The event saw 16 vendors from across 5 states assembling at the Dubbo showgrounds.
The event kicked off Thursday evening with a presentation by AuctionPlus’s newly appointed CEO, Wynand Snyman which captured the audience and those watching via the livestream. The presentation was followed by the classing of the 2023 sale animals, classed by DSSA inspector Wicus Cronje who provided a few short comments on each animal. All sale sheep underwent vet checks, scanned for fat, eye muscle, and finally weighed before returning to their respective pens. Pizzas and nibbles were shared with vendors, prospective buyers, and other visitors while the classing was livestreamed to those online via the AuctionsPlus listing and the society’s Facebook page.
The sale saw over 100 lots on offer of the highest quality Dorper and White Dorper Rams and Ewes from across the country. The sale commenced 11am on Friday morning, Nutrien Agent John Settree auctioneered the sale located prominently on the outside grass area, providing high quality viewing of sale animals for all in attendance. The sale was interfaced with AuctionsPlus providing the opportunity for animals to be purchased by breeder’s country wide. Results were responsive of the animals on offer with a 76% clearance rate.

Sale Results
33 Dorper rams sold to $20,000 (Lot 43 Dell 210621 to Wood Livestock, Culgoa stud) and av $3,606.
22 White Dorper rams sold to $13,000 (Lot 7 Kaya 210052 to Begargo Creek White) and av $4,175.
15 Dorper ewes sold to $2,400 (Lot 100 Dell 220156 to Mount Dromadery Dorpers) and av $1,173.
5 White Dorper ewes sold to $1,100 and averaged $880.
