BASED on a floodplain Ormeau in the Gold Coast Hinterland, Livingstone Christian College needed a breed of sheep with the capacity to withstand the wet conditions.
“Dorpers were our chosen breed as they are hardy,” said agricultural technologies co-ordinator Troy Reynolds.
“They need to be worm resistant and robust without complications and this breed fulfils all said categories.”
The school now boasts 30 dedicated students in the Dorper show team and they’ve enjoyed strong performances at local shows, excelling in the interbreeds, young handlers and young judges. The school runs about 15 ewes and one ram.
